Expository Preaching (What makes exposition "preaching")

WHAT MAKES EXPOSITION "PREACHING"

Expository preaching is exposition PLUS. In other words, the expository preaching is beyond an exposition, because it delivers the very words that God does himself give to man. Isaiah said "Look in the scroll of the LORD and read: it is his mouth that has given the order, and his Spirit will gather them together"(Isa 34:16).

In addition to explanation, there must be application. Preaching is not only the exposition of the Scriptures but also the application of the textual exposition to the context of those days and places of the congregations. Therefore, not just, "This is what it means," but also, "This is what it means to you today," In preaching the Scriptures, it is important to explain the words of God, rather to apply the words of God to the people.

In addition to talking about what God did and said(long ago), the preacher must speak about what God is doing and what we should be doing (now). In other words, it means that the preacher should speak about the words of God in the dimensions of the past, the present, and the future perspectives. And just the appeal to the people of the preaching context must go after the explanation of the text from the Scriptures. In II Corinthians 5:20, Paul the Apostle says, "We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us......."
