EXPOSITORY PREACHING (01)
WHAT MAKES PREACHING "EXPOSITORY"
What is the heart of exposition? It is explanation in the dictionary of Webster(Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary, 1983), "Exposition is a setting forth of the meaning or purpose(as of a writing), and discourse...designed to convey information or explain what is difficult to understand." In other words, it is a discourse which is designed to explain what is difficult to understand the textual contents which have been given from the Scriptures in the human dimension.
"Exposition" is built on the verb "expose," which means "to open up to view," or "to reveal." Therefore, it reveals the truth to understand to the relevant people. Preaching is expository, then, when it seeks to make clear the teaching and the content of some portion of Scripture. In fact, preaching must be clearly biblical. If not so, it would give serious side-effect to the audiences. Therefore preacher must pay his attention to it.
