How much should Christians engage in politics? There is a wide spectrum of opinions concerning this subject.

On one extreme, some believe that Christians are obligated to fight the injustices of the world, even by force if necessary, because our God is the God of social justice. Students of Liberation Theology, which was once popular among third world Christians, belong to this group.
On the opposite extreme are those who believe the world belongs to Satan and is of no concern to Christians. Christians do not and should not have any part in it and instead should focus on establishing a holy community. The Amish are an example of this view.

I believe the proper relationship between the world and Christians is best understood as that between a rented house and its tenants. The world is a rented house. The owner is Satan (1 John 5:19). And Christians are the tenants.

Renters shouldn¡¯t destroy or rebuild a rented house because it does not belong to them. So it¡¯s wrong to try to topple a legitimate government by force or try to build a Christian nation.
On the other hand, when the house is on fire, the renters shouldn¡¯t fold their arms and idly stand by. They should do their best to fight the fire and save the house. They should also maintain a good relationship with their fellow tenants. So it¡¯s wrong for Christians to refuse to fulfill military duties, pay taxes, or participate in voting.

The degree of involvement in politics should be decided by each individual, knowing that this world belongs to Satan and we are merely its tenants. We should avoid two extremes, neither trying to change the world through force, nor withdrawing from the world entirely.
