The Reason for Posting in Korean and English

Both my son and daughter were born in the U.S. They have five children between them. I'd like to share my thoughts and my life with them but I don¡¯t speak English well enough to express myself fully, and they don¡¯t understand Korean. Even after living in the US for almost 50 years, I still have to translate my Korean thoughts into English in my head before I speak.
I can express myself better in writing than by speaking because I can make correction. So for the sake of my children and grandchildren I use both Korean and English when I post on Facebook.
Also, I want to communicate with the members of the English-speaking congregation of Seoul Baptist Church. Our church constitution stipulates that Seoul Baptist Church consists of two congregations, the Korean-speaking congregation (KSC) and the English-speaking congregation (ESC). Each has its own pastor, but the pastor of the congregation with larger membership and annual budget is the official senior pastor of Seoul Baptist.
Before I retired from Seoul Baptist, I posted my weekly columns on the ESC website after translating them into English so the ESC members would know the thoughts and plans of their senior pastor. I still want to communicate with them because I consider them friends. So for the sake of the ESC members I use both Korean and English when I post on Facebook.
Some people seem to be impressed by my English writing, but I actually get help. Before my retirement from Seoul Baptist, my son, Danny, helped me. I would translate my column into English and send it to him, then he would edit and post it on the ESC website in ¡°actual¡± English. (My son says he gets the urge to translate my sermons when I preach in English. ^^;)
These days my daughter Christine helps me with my posts on Facebook. After I finish the Korean version, I write again an English version based on the same thoughts and send it to Christine for revision. She minored in English in college and claims she is better than her brother in editing. ^^;
I occasionally check the list of people who ¡®like¡¯ my posts. It pleases me when I find the names of those who would not have read my columns if they were written in Korean only.
