HOW TO MOVE FROM TEXT TO SERMON

First of all, preacher should have the basic convictions and presuppositions of the sermon to be preached to the people before he preach that. Of course, he does fully understand the text of the sermon selected from the Scripture. A preacher of the Word of God must first be an interpreter of it. The first task of the interpreter/ preacher is to draw out of an appropriate passage the meaning intended by the original author for exegesis. Exegesis is painstaking, sometimes tedious, work.

More important than intellectual effort is spiritual preparation. It means that preacher must pray spiritually in depth. He must communicate with God through the Holy Spirit, and receive the inspired Word of God for his preaching. Without the inspiration, it is hardly difficult for him to move(inspire) the hearer. There are several steps in preparation of the expository preaching:
