Planting a Vision

What is a vision? Vision is a quality God imparts to those for whom He has designed positions of significant leadership (Barna 1990, 88). In fact, a vision comes from not a man but God. Through the Holy Spirit a number of the people in the Bible had seen their visions from God, and Today's people can see their visions through God the Holy Spirit. By the words of God a vision can be defined as this: the ability, or the God-given gift, to see the picture of the future reality in faith (Galloway 1986, 29). It is seen in the words of God in Hebrews: "Now faith is the substance of things helped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Heb. 11:1).

Without a vision pastors cannot plan the strategy for church growth, and his voyage of ministry may meet with a difficulty because he cannot see the target. If there is no vision, there is no business (Kouzes and Posner 1987, 83). Without a vision church may stop to grow, and may be dying. The Bible says, "Where there is no vision, the people perish" (Prov. 29:18 KJV).

George Barna emphasized that vision is one of two central elements to attracting new people to the church and to faith in Christ (Barna 1990, trans. by Tak, 1993, 45). Without a vision, therefore the pastors cannot grow their churches. Therefore the strategy for church growth begins with a vision.

Pastors can see a vision for church growth. In other words, pastors must have "church growth eyes." (Pointer 1984, 68). The pastors must receive a vision for the church growth. This is the starting point for the strategy. God wants to work through the function of their minds called visualization to accomplish His work on this earth (Galloway 1986, 30). Great blessings come from God first by seeing a vision.

This vision should be identified with their congregation. At first, the vision must be continuously seen and heard through the pulpit so as to be oriented to and identified with the congregation. In so doing, the pastor should be powerfully preaching the message on the vision. Congregation must identify with their pastor.
