The Korean Church Planting in the Republic of Brazil (03)

THE KOREAN CHURCH PLANTING IN THE REPUBLIC OF BRAZIL (03)

Since the Central Church has been affiliated with the Christian
Holiness Church in Korea that Church has defined her position as the
Church belonging to that denomination. Therefore this Church has
coexisted with the Presbyterian Church in that city. She had had Mr.
Lee, Suk Ho as Senior Pastor in 1970.

Third church, the Sao Paulo Presbyterian Church has been established
by Pastor Chung, Kil Soo in 1968, who had left the Central Church.
The fourth Church was the Korean Methodist Church established by
Pastor Han, Sung Wook, which has been renamed the Korean Presbyteri-
an Church after that following to the Presbyterian Denomination.

There are many churches established after that; Seoul Presbyterian
Church(1970), Dong Sim Presbyterian Church, Korean Holiness Church(
1971), Bethany Presbyterian Church(1972), Korean Presbyterian Chu-
rch(1973), Mission Presbyterian Church Brazilia Holiness Church(19-
74, which is not located in Sao Paulo), Yong Rak Presbyterian Church
(1975), Nam Mi Presbyterian Church(which means The South America Pr-
esbyterian Church), Sin II Presbyterian Church, Sung Ji Presbyterian l
Church, The Korean Assembly of God(1977).

The Korean Church in Brazil has been characterized by most of the
churches located in Sao Paulo which is an industrial city, most of
them are the Presbyterian churches, no Baptist church, and Methodist
church has a weak power. On the contrary the power of the Korean Ho-
liness Church seems to be active. And Korean Church has increased by
the division of the churches because of conflicting each other. Such
charaters could be pointed out as the marked characteristics of the
Korean Church in Brazil.

But the Korean churches in Brazil have been growing by virtue of
the devotion of the zealous pastors and the saints, and they have
got the church buildings as their ownership. They have took charge
of the work for church member increase, supporting the dependent ch-
urches and the work of world mission. And also they have played an
important part of the spiritual center of the Korean immigrants.
